Abstract
Methanol is a toxic agent that is widely available because of its various uses in industry. Intoxication can occur with, ingestion, inhalation of methanol vapor or by absorption¢¥ through the skin. The morbidity and mortality associated with methanol ingestions are due to a combination of systemic acidosis, central nervous system depression and neurotoxicity.
We experienced a case of acute methanol intoxication, which showed characteristic clinical manifestations and bilateral symmetrical hypodensity area in basal ganglia on brain CT scan. At autopsy, the areas of necrosis and hemorrhage corresponded to those seen on brain CT scan.
